The Captain Cook Hotel
A Piece of Sydney’s Soul and a champion of professional Live entertainment
The Captain Cook Hotel is a vibrant piece of Sydney’s history and culture. Step inside for a warm community welcome from Kevin, the publican, while soaking up the history, savoring amazing food, enjoying live music, and relaxing with a refreshing drink!
A Pub Built for a Port City
Established in 1874, the Captain Cook Hotel reflects Sydney’s maritime and military roots. Like the Lord Nelson and Hero of Waterloo, it served as a hub for wharf workers and locals. Its parlours hosted political debates, community meetings, and even coroner inquiries.
While retaining its late Victorian charm, the pub has adapted over time—expanding in 1900, evolving with Sydney’s 6 o’clock swill era, and surviving a fire in 1878. New layouts and dining spaces have kept it central to the city’s social scene.
A Living Piece of Sydney’s Heritage
By 1928, few 19th-century pubs remained in Millers Point. Despite wartime changes, brewery takeovers, and urban development, the Captain Cook Hotel endures as a a piece of Sydney’s soul. With deep roots in the community and stories in its walls, it remains a place where history and hospitality meet.
Millers Point: A Suburb Woven into Sydney’s Story
Once home to the Gadigal people, Millers Point became an industrial hub after colonisation. From the Gold Rush to Barangaroo’s rise, it has shaped Sydney’s identity. The 2014 sell-off of public housing sparked a fight to preserve its heritage.
Location. 33-35 Kent Street Millers Point, NSW 2000
Hours: Monday - Friday: 11am - 11pm
Saturday - 11am - 11pm
Sunday: Closed
